Spirits Masterclass: A History of Naval Rum

May 17, 2024 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM (EDT)

Description

Celebrate Armed Forces Day with a deep-dive into the rich history of naval rum! Born amid ships, rum has long been served aboard naval vessels and was a critical provision on nearly all ocean voyages. Join Anthony Caporale, Director of Spirits Education at New York’s award-winning Institute of Culinary Education, to explore the origins of this seafaring spirit, examine its complex relationship with sailors, pirates, and privateers, and discover why the modern world as we know it would likely look much different without rum. Along the way, we’ll taste several styles of rum and learn to appreciate what makes them both similar and often vastly distinct. A selection of unique rums will be provided by Spencer & Lynn Wine and Spirit Merchants of downtown Mystic. If you’re proudly serving or gratefully supporting, you won’t want to miss this unique take on cane spirits!
