Description

Create a single-color, winter-themed linocut and print it on three totes that can double as custom gift bags. 

This beginner-friendly class is an introduction to the relief process, the technique used in the oldest forms of printmaking. We will explore types of carving blocks, inks, and papers, and you will learn how to transfer your design and carve and ink the block. You will then handprint three medium-sized totes. 

Please read through the relief printing handout (found here) before class. Several winter-themed designs will be available for you to choose from, including snowflakes, ice skates, sleds, tea cups, sweaters, and boots. These simple designs will allow you to focus on the fundamentals of printmaking and ensure that you have plenty of time to print your totes.
