GMCC Recognizes Sheila Litty in Community Proud Series Sponsored by Charter Oak Credit Union
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is pleased to shine the spotlight on Sheila Litty in our "Community Proud" Series sponsored by Charter Oak Federal Credit Union. Sheila Litty has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Ocean Community YMCA since June 2025, bringing with her a deep commitment to community, wellness, and service-driven leadership. Today, she leads an organization that spans four branches—the Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch, Arcadia Branch, Naik Family Branch, and Camp Watchaug —guiding the Y’s mission to strengthen individuals and families across the region. From day one, she has grounded her leadership in a clear vision for the organization: to cultivate, innovate, and elevate—a motto that continues to shape her work and inspire her team.
Sheila’s journey with the Ocean Community YMCA began in September 2019, when she joined as Executive Director of the Mystic branch (now the Naik Family Branch). Her leadership and impact quickly elevated her into broader roles, first as Vice President of Operations and then as Chief Operating Officer. In that position, she played a key role in driving program innovation, membership growth, staff and volunteer development, and strong fiscal and facility management. Her career reflects a longstanding dedication to the health and wellness field, including previous work with other YMCA associations and serving as a Recreation Director in Guam.
Originally from Cedar Hill, Missouri, Sheila’s life has been shaped by her experience as a military spouse for more than 34 years. Her husband, Captain Craig Litty, currently serves as the commanding officer of the Navy base in Groton. Throughout decades of moving around the world, Sheila built resilience, adaptability, and a deep appreciation for community—qualities that continue to define her leadership today. She considers navigating and thriving through this journey alongside her family to be her proudest accomplishment.
Now proudly rooted in Westerly, Sheila has “dug her heels in” and embraced the Ocean Community as home. Known for her collaborative spirit and passion for people, she is widely regarded as a thoughtful and inspiring leader. Through her work at the Y, Sheila remains focused on creating meaningful connections, expanding access to programs, and ensuring that the organization continues to serve as a cornerstone of community strength and well-being—always striving to cultivate opportunity, innovate for the future, and elevate those she serves.
