The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce Recognizes Kyle Lowry in the Community Proud Series Sponsored by Charter Oak Credit Union
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is pleased to shine a spotlight on Kyle Lowry in our Community Proud series, sponsored by Charter Oak Credit Union. At only 22 years old, Kyle has already built an impressive record of public service and community involvement. His accomplishments reflect a genuine desire to learn and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Kyle is a lifelong Pawcatuck resident and a graduate of Stonington Schools. He grew up surrounded by the familiar faces and strong community connections that continue to make the area feel like home.
For Kyle, southeastern Connecticut is more than the place where he lives. It is where his family and friends are rooted. It is also where he learned the value of showing up for others and contributing to the community around him.
Kyle graduated from the University of Connecticut in May. During his time at UConn, he completed degrees in Economics and Political Science. He also earned a degree in Applied Mathematics. His three areas of study reflect his wide range of interests. Economics and mathematics strengthened his ability to evaluate information and understand how resources can be used effectively. Political science allowed him to study public institutions and the ways government can respond to community needs.
Kyle gained practical experience through several internships while completing his education. Each position introduced him to a different part of public and professional life. He interned with First Financial Advisory Services in Westerly. The experience gave him an opportunity to learn about financial services and the responsibilities involved in advising clients.
Kyle also worked with the Town of Stonington in the office of First Selectman Danielle Chesebrough where he was able to observe local government and better understand how municipal leaders serve residents. His interest in public service later took him to Washington. Kyle interned in the office of U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and gained experience at the federal level.
He also worked with the Connecticut General Assembly through an internship with State Representative Gregory Haddad. Together, these experiences gave Kyle a view of government at the local level and beyond. They also confirmed his interest in pursuing work that could benefit communities.
Following graduation, Kyle joined The Governor’s Prevention Partnership as its Community and Municipal Relations Liaison. The position combines his interest in public service with direct community outreach. Kyle supports the expansion of Prevention Starts With You®, a substance use prevention initiative for families. The program provides practical resources that help reduce the risk of medication misuse and accidental exposure.
Participating households receive educational information and tools for safely disposing of unused medication. Communities can also distribute locking storage bags to help residents secure medications that are still being used.
Kyle works directly with municipal leaders to understand each community’s needs. He begins by listening and learning about local priorities. He also asks what prevention resources are already available and how leaders communicate with residents.
That approach allows the program to support existing efforts rather than replace them. Each partnership is developed with local leadership so the materials and outreach strategy reflect the individual community.
Since joining the organization in May, Kyle has helped bring seven new municipalities into the effort. The program is expected to reach at least ten communities by the end of 2026. Across those communities, more than 50,000 households will receive prevention information. The program could also remove up to 2.2 million dosage units of unused medication from circulation. These results are especially meaningful to Kyle because his career is only beginning. He is proud that his work is already helping families take simple actions that can make their homes safer.
Community events give him another opportunity to connect directly with residents. A brief conversation can help someone recognize why safe medication disposal matters in their own home. Some residents have unused prescriptions or over-the-counter medications. Others want to protect their children or grandchildren. Pet owners may also be concerned about accidental exposure.
Kyle has met people who initially believed the program did not apply to them. After learning more, some asked for several disposal pouches to bring home. Those conversations have shown him how education can lead to immediate action.
His commitment to helping others extends beyond his professional role. Kyle is also involved with Choose Kindness, a nonprofit that supports children with craniofacial differences. The organization provides an annual summer camp and holds community events throughout the year. Kyle has served as a counselor at the camp three times.
His work with Choose Kindness has given him an opportunity to help children build confidence and meaningful friendships. It has also reinforced the importance of creating spaces where every person feels welcomed and supported.
Kyle hopes to be known for making a positive impact on his community and the people around him. His education and early career reflect that goal. His volunteer work shows that the same commitment also guides his personal life.
He draws inspiration from his family and friends. Personal mentors have helped shape his goals and professional mentors continue to guide him as he begins his career.
Outside of work, Kyle enjoys playing the piano and going for walks. Spending time with family and friends remains an important part of his life. He is also passionate about politics and volunteering. He admits that reality television occasionally finds its way into his schedule.
One detail often surprises people when they first hear his name. Kyle Lowry also happens to be the name of a professional basketball player. While the shared name may get attention, this Kyle is establishing his own identity through education and community service.
Being recognized through the Community Proud series is especially meaningful because Kyle was nominated by his colleagues at The Governor’s Prevention Partnership. As a new member of the team, he is honored that they chose to acknowledge his contributions. Recognition from the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce makes the honor even more personal. It comes from the community where he grew up and where many of the people who shaped his life still live.
Kyle Lowry’s story shows that community leadership does not depend on age or years of experience. It begins with a willingness to listen and learn. It grows through service and a sincere desire to help others.
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Kyle Lowry. We thank him for his commitment to public service and the example he is setting for other young professionals in our community.
