About

Did you know the Mystic Flag Committee (MFC) is a volunteer-run, non profit organization dedicated to flying the American flag on the Liberty Pole  in downtown Mystic?

MFC traces its beginning to 1862 when a group of patriotic residents met to erect the first Liberty Pole. Since its founding in the 1980s, MFC has  replaced the pole twice.

The volunteers of MFC also created Liberty Pole Square (the small park  with the anchor by S&P) for local citizens and visitors to Mystic to rest and  view the Liberty Pole.

Further, with enormous support from Scout Troop 76 Mystic, MFC has  taken on the role of decorating the downtown sidewalks with American  flags on patriotic holidays, a tradition started in 1927 by local residents.

Such work along with annual maintenance and flag replacement costs are  not funded by any government, but by you, the local businesses and  residents of Mystic. You can learn more about MFC and show your support by making a donation at: www.mysticlibertypole.com. We look forward to  meeting all of you and you have our sincere gratitude for your on-going  generosity.
